Hein, M.: Current state of research on the so-called whiplash and foundations for the establishment and implementation of an interdisciplinary report with emphasis on whiplash injuries. 20. EVU Conference, Gratz

For more than 15 years, the assessment and evaluation of the so-called whiplash trauma is associated with a controversial, partly emotionally overloaded discussion.
When in 1995 the Quebec Task Force stated that from more than 10,000 publications of the so-called whiplash injury only about 300 were usable, the situation has fortunately changed today. Many postulated causes of problems (injuries to the ligaments, instabilities in the stem of the upper cervical spine, head, joint dysfunction, brainstem-staggering, neuro-otological disorders) can be discarded as not proved and are no longer significantly relevant in the current assessment.
In the mean time in Germany - at least in many court cases - a standardized procedure has been established - by means of a multidisciplinary expert opinion that first, the biomechanical occupant load is calculated by technical experts and then evaluated by medical experts, whether in the discussion between stress and resilience of the individual could have caused an imbalance, which led for example to a possible violation of the cervical spine.
In this lecture first the current state of research will be presented on the so-called whiplash injury, and then the basic procedure for the interdisciplinary examination of the "cervical whiplash trauma" will be explained by means of two case studies, to illustrate the meaning and the benefit of the interdisciplinary approach with the help of these two practical examples.
