In the near future human computer models will make it possible to assess human body kinematic and kinetic responses, as well as possible injury patterns (local tissue damage), for the load related to a specific type of the road accident. Development of human models such as HUMOS or THUMS has required detailed geometrical models of the different human body organs and organic structures.
This paper will discuss the reconstruction processes of complex three dimensional geometrical models of human body organs and organic structures from a set of medical images which can be recorded by standard devices used in medical diagnosis (CT, MRI etc.). For a specific organic structure (the forearm bones, radius and ulna) detailed geometrical models will be reconstructed. Based on the geometrical models developed and further discretization process, Finite Element Models (FEM) will be developed. By performing several numerical analyses we will show how geometric reconstruction of human body organs and organic structures affects the efficiency of numerical procedures such as FEM, as well as the calculated results.
