Wach, W.: Crash against mast according to EN 12767 standard – uncertainty of passive safety indexes calculated in programs for simulation of vehicle accidents

Support structures for roaEVU 2012 Brasov Wachd equipment are subject to EN 12767 standard which introduces three levels of passive safety according to injury of the occupants of the colliding vehicles: NE, LE and HE (i.e. non, low and high energy absorption, respectively). The structure is qualified to an appropriate group on the basis of the results of crash tests including different speed class and magnitude of ASI (Acceleration Severity Index), THIV (Theoretical Head Impact Velocity) and PHD (Post-Impact Head Deceleration) indexes defined in EN 1317-1. Four crash tests according to EN 12767 standard were performed. The same tests were simulated using PC-Crash and EDSMAC4 programs. The ASI, THIV and PHD indexes were used as parameters for assessment of modeling uncertainty of the programs in terms of simulation of a crash between a car and a pole. It was shown that the results can be found satisfactory, however, improvement in mathematical models would be welcomed.
