Accident Scene

German, 7 pages, 13 figures
Keywords: accident, hit-and-run-offence

This paper shows how a complex accident can be reconstructed in detail by an interdisciplinary team of a technical expert and a forensic doctor. It presents an example such a team working together on the reconstruction of an accident on the sole basis of the police report. Yet this cooperation of experts in the preliminary stages of a criminal proceeding is not the rule. Usually, the forensic doctor does not even see the police’s photographs of the accident scene or of the damaged vehicles. Often, marks left at the accident scene are examined without considering the possible development of the accident. Thus, when securing evidence, the forensic unit does not necessarily know where to look for the marks. The case presented in the paper is an example of a good cooperation, which resulted in solving the case in the end.
