Often reconstruction experts need to estimate the deceleration of vehicles in both pre and post impact phases. Also when heavy goods vehicles are involved in an accident, they need this data. There are many available publications which show a lot of detailed experimental data. They refer to different kinds of road surfaces, but most of time the data has been derived from car tests and therefore it cannot be applied to heavy goods vehicles. At the same time, due to the development of new braking systems and tire compounds, the applicable data needs to be constantly updated. This is the reason why a group of reconstruction experts within the EVU Italia organization decided to organise a day to measure the maximum deceleration of heavy goods vehicle, both with or without load.
