The UK’s leading manufacturer of automotive data acquisition systems ‘Race Technology’ now offers the device DL1 package including a 20 Hz GPS for no more than 1000 Euros. We have tested the capabilities of the hard- and software in regard to measurements of vehicle dynamics. We have expanded the data logger by ultrasonic sensors to measure the distance of the vehicle body from the ground. The system enables us to accurately log the position, the acceleration (x-y, 2 g) as well as the roll and pitch angle by using a single system and its accompanying software. The paper presents the system’s features and some examples from the field of accident reconstruction.
