The Police-Pilot is a velocity measurement device which is used in civilian service vehicles of the police. Most of the time, the device is used in connection with video footage, as ProVida System (Proof Video Data System). However it also allows several methods of velocity measurement without additional video footage. For the manual operation mode described and examined here, the distance and time between two fixed points are measured, e.g. road mark-ings or sign-posts. Beside device- or vehicle-related tolerance, when using this measurement method there is generally one further potential measurement er-ror due to inaccurate estimation or a time-delayed reaction of the operator. This paper presents the results of an examination of the size of this "triggering error".
