The reconstruction of a vehicular road accident involves various parameters comprising infrastructure data, vehicle characteristics and human biomechanics. An impact is described as a highly non linear dynamic phenomenon which is, by essence, difficult to observe. However, during a frontal collision, occupant kinematics follow basic physics. The purpose of this paper is to detail these simple rules, mandatory first step to describe more complicated cases. Belted or unbelted, full frontal, angled or offset impacts are test conditions covered within the scope of this work, which does not include real world analysis, but rather laboratory controlled environment testing.
