After the liberalisation of the railway system in Europe there are different companies running on the tracks of the former state railway network. The conditions of the contracts and properties are often very complicated. As a support for the jurisdiction, in the year 2000 the investigation bureau for railway-, funicular- and boat accidents was created; an authority within the state authority of Switzerland. In the case of an accident the investigation bureau for railway-, funicular- and boat accidents writes a report, which includes safety recommendations. The realization of the safety recommendations intends to prevent further accidents.
