Within the scope of an interdisciplinary study we conducted sled experiments with volunteers [1]. As a basic research, we studied the influence of various postures on the body trajectories during a rear impact. In regard to the most vulnerable neck region, we thereby concentrated on the relative motion between the head and the torso. In comparison to the Normal posture, gripping tightly to the steering wheel is contra productive, whereas forcing it away (i. e. pushing oneself into the backrest) has a protective potential.
