Comparing measurements between a Nikon D200 and a luminance meter showed that from the knowledge of a camera specific calibration curve the luminance distribution in a wide range can be derived from a digital photograph. Thus the luminance distribution can be recorded quickly, efficiently and at a low cost at the accident site and be analysed later on a personal computer. A common graphic program or specifically developed software can be used for the analysis.
