Stánczyk, T.L.; Jurecki, R.: Precision in estimation time of driver reaction in car accident reconstruction
In the following work there have been analysed factors affecting the estimation accuracy of driver's reaction time. On the basis of one's own experimental tests (on a track, in a simulator and at a stand for psycho-technical analysis) there has been illustrated an influence of the method of conducting experimental tests onto statistical distribution of reaction times. It has been presented that the key elements having influence on reaching reaction time values are: the accident scenario taken into consideration (level of complexity) as well as risk time (the time between the obstacle being noticed and a potential crash with it) as as measure of accident threat.
Numerous instances show that it is indispensable to vary the guidelines published for experts, depending upon the types of accident situations. In
connection with an observed need to estimate uncertainty (accuracy) estimations being executed by experts, it is therefore necessary to commence a discussion on: what type of distribution it is recommended
to estimate distribution of driver reaction times – symmetric distribution (normal) or asymmetric one and upon which asymmetry (positive or
negative).
