Occupant loading caused by minor collisions has been gaining more and more attention recently. Several experiments for the evaluation of rear end collisions were conducted. These tests showed that velocity change is an appropriate parameter to describe biomechanical loading of the occupant. So far, lateral collisions have been very difficult to give expert opinion on, as the existing literature mainly provides experiments at very high speeds leading to major injuries.
