In nearly every accident reconstruction it is necessary to evaluate the point for reaction – be it by discussing the reaction time or by determining the precise moment when to react. Yet the evaluation whether somebody reacts correctly or in due time requires an exact definition of the term ‘call for reaction’. This paper takes stock of the existing literature on this topic. Further, it presents preliminary results of a study conducted by the author, comprising video recordings of 108 critical traffic situations. Finally, the author deduces rough values for a set of standard situations.
