Rear-impact collisions rank among the most frequent and most dangerous accidents. In order to reconstruct the exact course of the accident and to draw conclusions on the occupants’ load, it is important for engineers and medical scientists to know the forensic road accident investigation parameters of rear-impact collisions.
Collision parameters, for example vehicle acceleration, change of speed caused by the impact, coefficient of restitution, elapsed time of the impact and energy equivalent speed are calculated on the basis of the acceleration graphs of the AZT rear-impact crash tests. The parameter values are analysed and investigated for their development. In addition, the crash compatibility of vehicles and the reproducibility of the AZT crash test are considered.
